Didn't identify the queen (again), not much larvae in the bottom of the hive, but otherwise quite active.
removed nine frames with honey (but not very heavy and partially covered). Langstroth box with 10 frames at the bottom of the hive One farrar box above and food tray. Question: Should we get a new queen for this hive?

Could not find the queen in this hive.
Two lower farrar boxes contain ten L-frames. Removed 5 honey cakes on farrar frames. To do: Find the queen. Put the L-box at the base of the hive. Remove any honeycakes on L-frames and also remove honey on farrar frames. Add a food box. Opened the hive to do some general maintenance and found there were only 9 farrar frames in the bottom instead of then. So there was lots of wild growth which we had to remove.
The hive looked good, several frames were full of honey and covered in wax so probably ready to remove soon. |
